This information is for the United Kingdom, where your app is based. To check the policy for another country, visit our Help Centre in your browser and tap the ‘globe icon.
Your fare is calculated based on a few things: the type of ride you choose (a black cab or a private hire vehicle), the distance and time of your trip, traffic, and how much demand there is. You can always see an estimated fare in the app before you book, and we’ll send you a detailed breakdown of all the charges in your email receipt after the trip.
Heads up: Freenow may charge additional fees. You can find more details about those fees here.
Black Cabs: metered fare
Black cab fares are calculated by the taxi’s meter in real time, so the price you see in the app is an estimate. The final price can sometimes be a little higher because of things you can’t predict, like traffic or road closures.
Rides: fixed fare
For ride trips, we give you a fixed price upfront. The price you see when you book is what you'll pay. This price is based on the estimated distance of your trip and any extra charges for high demand.
The final fare might be a little different if:
- You have a waiting fee
- Your trip is a lot longer than the initial estimate
- You change your destination and the new drop-off point is further away (don’t worry, we’ll always ask you to confirm the new fare before we change the destination)
How fare adjustment works
For PHV rides, Freenow might need to adjust the fare if the actual distance is more than 30% longer than the estimated distance, or if the trip takes more than 10 minutes longer than we first thought.
This can happen for reasons outside of Freenow’s control, like traffic or accidents. If a fare adjustment is applied, we’ll let you know with an in-app message showing the new fare as soon as it's been updated.
