What are the requirements for renting a scooter?

To rent any of our electric scooters you don't need any previous experience. The only requirement is to be over 18 years old and to have a driving licence. 

For your safety and everyone else's, you must comply with the following rules:

• Only one person per scooter
• Do not exceed the maximum weight of 100 kg (including all accessories - bag, backpack, etc.)
• Respect local traffic laws
• Do not use the scooter under the influence of alcohol or drugs. For everyone's sake, it is better to call a taxi
• Be attentive and drive intelligently. Watch out for large vehicles, don't drive in blind spots and always stay focused and aware of your surroundings, traffic and pedestrians
• Consider wearing a helmet

Once you are registered on the FREENOW app and added a payment method*, you can book any scooter from any of our providers, either through your account or FREENOW Business Account (if Multimobility services are enabled).

*We accept debit or credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express), PayPal, Google Pay and Apple Pay.

How to validate my driving licence for renting a scooter

Before your first scooter rental, in line with Transport for London requirements, you will need to verify your driving licence. The process is guided, and you will usually have an answer within a few minutes. 

We accept UK and EU-issued licences (A or B-class) which have been held for a minimum of 1 year. The document needs to be in good shape and plastic format.

Simply follow the next steps:

1. 1. Click on 2-wheels and choose the vehicle you want to rent (zoom in to find them on the map)
   2. Once inside the menu of the selected vehicle, go to 'Add required documents' > 'Select issuing country' > 'Enable camera' (you may need to allow the app to access your camera)
   3.  Fill in your information on 'Address'
   4. Tab 'Driving licence'. When prompted, take a photo of the front of your driving licence*. Select 'My licence is readable' or 'Take a new picture' to repeat the process
   5. Take a selfie of your face. This allows us to verify it against the image on your driving licence. If you wear glasses, make sure your eyes are visible

Your details will be validated by our partner Onfido. Once this is complete, you will be notified and ready to go!

You can also upload your documents from your app profile:

1. Tap on your profile icon in the top right-hand corner of the FREE NOW app homepage
2. Tap again over your profile picture
3. On the 'Documents' section, you will be able to upload your Driving licence and ID
