How do I start my Carsharing trip?
Once your driver's license has been validated and Bluetooth/GPS is enabled on your device, follow these simple steps to start your rental:
- Open the FREENOW app and select the Carsharing tab
- Choose the car you want to rent from the map. For 'Free2move' cars, select the rate that suits you
- Tap Start Rental to begin your trip
Before you start driving, remember to:
- Check the battery charge of your car to ensure it has enough range for your journey.
- Inspect the vehicle for any pre-existing damage. If you find any, contact support by tapping the "Help" button in the rental details section.
Where can I drive the Carsharing?
You are free to drive the car anywhere within the city, but your trip must end within the Operational Zone indicated on the app. This area will be clearly marked on the map when you select a vehicle.
Can I park the Carsharing during my trip and keep my rental ongoing?
Yes, you can park the car and pause the rental. This keeps the vehicle locked and available for you, while preventing others from reserving it.
This feature is called "Parking Mode" or "Standby".
Please note:
- Avoid parking in garages or underground lots.
- An internet connection is required to lock/unlock the vehicle.
- You will be charged according to the partner's parking rates during the paused rental.
Where can I park the Carsharing and end my rental?
You can end your rental by parking the car in any legal, public street parking within the Operational Zone. This area is marked in the app.
Important:
- Private garages are not permitted for parking, and doing so may result in fines or extra fees.
- Some peripheral areas outside the Operational Zone may allow parking, but may incur additional charges. These will be shown in purple in the app, e.g. Alcobendas, Pozuelo de Alarcón, Villa de Vallecas, Aravaca.
When you’re ready to end your rental:
- Park the car and turn off the engine
- Make sure all doors, windows, and the boot are properly closed
- Open the app and tap "End Rental"
Note: You cannot end the rental in restricted areas such as loading zones, spaces for people with disabilities, or construction zones.
Do I need to refuel the Carsharing after my trip?
The need for refuelling depends on the supplier. Here is a breakdown:
- Free2move: No refuelling is required unless the energy level is below 20%. If so, refuel and the cost will be covered by Free2move.
- Zity: The car must have at least 10 km remaining range*.
- Voltio: The car must have at least 10 km of remaining range*.
*Ending the journey of a vehicle with a lower fuel/battery range than requested may lead to an administrative surcharge for the user. The vehicle's range can be seen on the vehicle's dashboard at all times.
What should I do if the Carsharing vehicle runs out of fuel?
