What is the Electronic day ticket (E-ticket)?
E-ticket is a digital day ticket for public transport purchased directly through the FREENOW app, whereby all security measures are adhered to and no external forwarding takes place.
It's super easy! Buy your e-ticket via your app and get on the train/bus/tram by scanning the barcode/QR code.
Where to use E-ticket
Our e-ticketing solution is now available wherever the Rheinbahn operates: Düsseldorf, Dortmund, Essen, Duisburg, Bochum, and the surrounding rural areas.
What are the requirements for purchasing an E-ticket?
Anyone in Germany with a FREENOW account and a valid credit/debit card or PayPal can buy an E-ticket.
What types of E-tickets can I purchase and how much do they cost?
- VRR single ticket: valid for a single trip in the selected validity area (no round trips) for 90 minutes from the date of purchase and for one person
- 24-hour ticket: valid for an unlimited number of journeys in the selected validity area (including round trips) for 24 hours from the date of purchase and for one person
- 48-hour ticket: valid for an unlimited number of journeys in the selected validity area (including round trips) for 48 hours from the time of purchase and for one person
You can buy up to 5 tickets on your device.
Prices depend on the category and tariff zone and are determined by the local operator Rheinbahn. Find all the information on the official website.

2. Chose one of the options: VRR Single ticket, 24-hour ticket, and 48-hour ticket

I am having trouble purchasing my E-ticket
Experiencing issues when purchasing an E-ticket could be due to various reasons:
- You have a poor connection > Make sure you have a good signal. Then close the app and try again.
- You do not have a payment method set up in your app > Register a valid credit/debit card or PayPal in your account
- Payment for a previous ride has failed > Exit the ticket purchase process and complete the payment for that ride
If you are still experiencing issues, contact us.
How to get my E-ticket invoice
After purchasing your E-ticket, a confirmation email will be sent to the email address registered in your FREENOW account. You can then access and download your invoices by selecting the 'Download receipt' option in the email.
Can I return my E-ticket and get my money back?
Unfortunately, they cannot be returned and you are not entitled to a refund. Once you have made your purchase, there is no way to cancel or refund the amount.
What to do if I'm charged for the E-ticket but it is not showing in my app
If you have been charged for your E-ticket but it does not appear in your app, contact us and provide a screenshot of the deduction.
What to do if I receive a fine notice after requesting my E-ticket
Rheinbahn issues all the E-tickets QR codes. If you received a fine notice, you must claim it directly to them. Go to the offices or contact them through their official website.
