Allow location access
To be offered trips, the FREE NOW Driver app needs access to your location. You’ll have to adjust the settings on your mobile device. Here’s how to allow access to your location on iOS and Android mobile devices.
Top tip: Make sure your device has the latest version of the app installed.
iOS
- Select 'Settings'
- Scroll down to find the FREE NOW app
- Select 'Location'
- Choose 'Always'
Android
- Select 'Settings'
- Scroll down to find the 'Apps' section
- Scroll down to find the FREE NOW app
- Select 'Permissions'
- Choose 'Location'
- Select 'Allow only while using the app'

Go free
To go free, slide the toggle button from left to right. The button will change to green, and you’ll see ‘You’re free’ appear at the top of the screen. Short but effective. This will let us know that you're available to accept offers.
3. Enable notifications
iOS
- Go to your phone settings and open Notifications
- Select FREE NOW
- Ensure that the Allow notifications toggle is to the right/turned on
- Below this ensure that lockscreen, notification centre and Banners is ticked.
- Further down the screen sounds and badges should be to the right/turned on
Android
- Go to your phone settings and open 'Notifications'
- Select FREE NOW
- Ensure that the Show notifications toggle is to the right/turned on
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page and select Push notifications
- When on the Push notification page, select Notification style and choose Sound and pop-up from the drop-down menu
- Select 'Allow only while using the app'
4. Enable notification sounds
Make sure you get a notification sound whenever you receive an offer:
- Open the FREE NOW Driver app
- Tap on the 'Menu' icon in the top right-hand corner
- Tap on 'Settings'
- Select the sound you want
Top tip: Make sure the sound volume is turned up on your mobile device!
5. Other helpful suggestions
- Check you're in your approved service area
- Consider driving to an area in the city with higher demand
- Make sure that your driver documents, including driver’s licence, or vehicle documents have not expired
- Double-check that you’re using the FREE NOW Driver app (and not the FREE NOW Passenger app)
A final note, if your taxi license has expired, you'll still be able to log in but, you'll not receive any trips through the FREE NOW driver app until your documents are updated. Check out our steps on how to update your documents here.
