If you have booked a Black Cab ride with FREE NOW and see an entry for £35 on your bank statement, then please be assured that you have not been over-charged.
The entry on your bank statement is likely a pre-authorisation, and not an actual charge.
What is a pre-authorisation?
FREE NOW uses card pre-authorisations, a temporary hold of funds taken when you place your order, to ensure the payment method is valid and that you have enough funds available to pay the fare.
Why is the pre-authorisation £35 regardless of my fare?
If you are paying for a Black Cab ride using Apple Pay, or you select a Black Cab ride with no end destination using any payment method, then the pre-authorised amount will be £35.
This is to ensure that the payment is successfully taken without error, and that we can ensure your driver is correctly paid for their services. Find out more here.
If the fare is less than £35 when will my bank statement reflect this?
At the end of your trip this pre-authorisation will be converted into the final charge based on your fare, any fees and any tip that you leave the driver.
If the final fare total is lower than the £35 pre-authorisation, the balance will be released to your account.
This will take place within 30 minutes of the end of your trip.
However it may take longer for the funds to be available in your account. This will depend on who you bank with. Find our more here.
