Every time you book a ride, FREE NOW places a temporary hold of funds on your account to confirm that your payment method is valid.
This is called a pre-authorisation. The pre-authorisation may show as a "pending" charge on your account's payment method.
- If you have ordered a 'Ride' (PHV Vehicle) the pre-authorisation will be for the value of the booking you have requested.
- If you have ordered a Taxi the pre-authorisation will be for £35.
Once the trip is over, the pre-authorisation is converted into a charge.
If the ride is cancelled, FREE NOW will quickly void the pre-authorisation. When the pre-authorisation is voided, it may take up to a week for the pending transaction to disappear. The time it takes depends on your bank's policy, so if you would like to enquire about a specific transaction on your statement, please contact your bank directly.
Changing your destination in 'Ride'
Please note, if you are riding in a Private Hire Vehicle, and have requested an extra stop or a detour, the app will automatically calculate the new fixed fare.
If the new fare is higher than the original fare, your bank will either create a second pre-authorisation to cover the difference, or cancel the original pre-authorisation, and create a new one for the revised amount. This will depend entirely on who you bank with.
