When you book a ride, FREE NOW places a temporary hold on your account to confirm that your payment method is valid, called a pre-authorisation. The value of the pre-authorisation is that of the ride estimate and it will show as a "pending". Once your trip is over the pre-authorisation is turned into a charge. If the ride is cancelled, FREE NOW will quickly void the pre-authorisation, however it may take up to a week for your funds to be released. The time it takes depends on your bank's policy, so if you wish to find out more, please contact your bank directly.
Please note, if you are riding in a Private Hire Vehicle, and have requested an extra stop or a detour, the app will automatically calculate the new fixed fare. If the new fare is higher than the original fare, your bank will either create a second pre-authorisation to cover the difference, or cancel the original pre-authorisation, and create a new one for the revised amount. This will depend entirely on who you bank with.
